It was a great 2014 for Extreme Fishing Puerto Rico as we racked up 890 tarpon releases aboard the EXTREMIST! We caught some really big ones during our spring migration with our largest estimated at 140 pounds. We also caught fish up to 120 pounds during the fall migration and caught many fish in the 50 to 100 pound range throughout the year. The baby tarpon fishing was off the charts and we had many double digit four hour trips last season. Our best trip we released 22 tarpon in a four hour trip! The reef fishing was good when we could get out there as our peak season from February to June was a little bit windier than usual this year. We caught Kingfish, Blackfin Tuna, Sharks, Cero Mackerel, Barracuda and plenty of Snappers. Offshore we caught Blue & White Marlin, Sailfish, Wahoo, Doarado, and Yellowfin Tuna. This year we will be adding the new 22 foot Twin vee power cat EL FLAKO to our fleet to further our exploits offshore. In our preliminary voyages we have released blue marlin up to 450 pounds!!! We want to thank our incredible sponsors for all of their support: SHIMANO USA, ST. CROIX RODS, MOJO GEAR and MAUI JIM SUNGLASSES. In the photo above is Guy and Mike from Shimano USA during a tarpon trip last year in San Jose lagoon. We released 7 tarpon up tp 75 pounds and it was great having them on board! The season is under way and we hope to see you down in Puerto Rico soon! Tight lines, Capt. Juan.
As I mentioned earlier today the Extremist has released 712 tarpon for the year as of August 31st. Both Capt. Juan Carlos Torruella and Capt. Juan.
Well summer has definitely arrived here in Puerto Rico and although that has slowed down the tourism somewhat, it has not stopped the fish from biting! We still logged 35 tarpon releases this month and we also caught a mixed bag of Kingfish, Cero Mackerel, Barracuda, Jack Crevalle, Blue Runners, Ladyfish and Snook. The bigger tarpon have been caught mostly at night where Captain Angel Rodriguez has guided anglers to fish in the 50 to 100 pound class. Big Jack Crevalle have also been present near the Inlet with those big incomming tides of summer. Did my once a year retreat to Cap Cana (Dominican Republic) at the beggining of June and we caught a steady mix of blue & white marlin. We fished the Cap Cana Shootout tournament aboard the 57ft Bertram LET IT BE and finished in third place in the Bermudez rum division. On the third day of fishing we caught a blue, 3 whites and a sailfish for a great Grand Slam!!! It was the only Grand Slam of the tournament. July should produce more big tides and more Inlet tarpon so come 'on down! Tight lines, Capt. Juan.
May was another great month for Extreme Fishing Puerto Rico as we released a total of 99 tarpon and caught a good variety of fish off the reefs. We finished off the month in style releasing 16 tarpon up 75 pounds in weight fishing two days with the Casanova Clan! Off the reef we caught kingfish up to 30 pounds, blackfin tuna, jacks, barracuda, cero mackerel and yelowtail snapper. June is off to a good start with a consistent tarpon bite so come 'on down!!! Both San Jose and La Torrecilla lagoons were great tarpon producers during the month of March. The big fish bite continued at a solid pace with the Extremist logging 75 tarpon releases for the month, with many of the fish falling in the 50 to 100 pound range. Both Capt. Juan and Capt. Jose Milan released several fish over the triple digit mark and April should continue to produce big fish in the lagoons. We want to thank our great sponsors for their continued support and great equipment: ST. CROIX ROD COMPANY, SHIMANO AMERICAN CORPORATION, MOJO GEAR, AND MAUI JIM SUNGLASSES. Come 'on down!!! April and May should produce some really big fish!!! Tight lines, Capt. Juan.
The big tarpon kept anglers happy in San Jose Lagoon during the month of February. We logged 97 tarpon releases but the size of the fish was impressive with most of them falling in the 50 to 100 pounds class, with several trophies over the triple digit mark landed.
