Tarpon fishing

Captain Juan has been tarpon fishing in San Juan’s bays and harbors for over 25 years. The EXTREMIST will take you to the backcountry waters of Torrecilla, San Jose and Los Corozos lagoons. These waters were selected by Sport Fishing Magazine as one of the world’s top 15 tarpon waters in the world in 2010. Tarpon, snook, and jack crevalle offer fast action inside these protected lagoons throughout the year. Captain Juan caught 156 tarpon in just 6 days of fishing in December of 2001, the same week he set the island record for catches in just one day of fishing with 56 tarpon.

Tarpon fishing with EXTREME FISHING PUERTO RICO is great for the family and the kids since our backcountry lagoons are very calm and always protected from the wind.

Reef fishing

EXTREME FISHING PUERTO RICO will put you on the hottest reef fishing Puerto Rico has to offer. An amazing variety of gamefish live in our reefs including kingfish, cero mackerel, little tunny, barracuda, african pompano, horse-eye jacks, amberjacks, mutton snapper, cabrilla grouper and yellowtail snapper. This is live bait fishing at its finest with tackle ranging from 12 to 30 pound test lines.

The incredibly productive La Peña reef is just a scant 10 minute boat ride away from our docks. This underwater pinnacle rises from 130 foot depths to 78 feet of the surface and is home to many exciting gamefish. Captain Juan has personally guided three IGFA world records from La Peña, all caught on fly fishing gear.

Reef fishing is weather dependant & seasonal.

Vertical jigging

Captain Juan was one of the pioneers of vertical jigging in Puerto Rican waters.  Some of the best jigging grounds are a short 15 minute ride from our slip where anglers can target kingfish, wahoo, blackfin tuna, skipjack tuna, yellowfin tuna, false albacore, amberjack, almaco jack, black jacks, and sharks.  This is one on one stand-up fishing for tough fighters and anglers must be in top physical condition.  Spinning rods & reels with 50 to 80 pound braided lines are the weapons of choice for this type of fishing and jigs are dropped deep and wound up to the surface to cover the entire water column where these gamefish feed.
