We had a great July here in Puerto Rico and the tarpon bite was really good. Aboard our 20 foot Twin Vee power catamaran EXTREMIST we released 42 tarpon up to 100 pounds and caught some nice snook, jack crevalle, cero mackerel, snappers and ladyfish as well. The best of the tarpon fishing was concentrated around the new and full moon periods when the bigger tides were flooding La Torrecilla lagoon. Fishing off the beach also yielded good tarpon action along with the bigger snook and the cero mackerel frenzies.
Our best trip was on July 18th when we caught and released six tarpon up to 90 pounds in a 4 hour trip. August already started out with a bang with a big 100 pound tarpon for Nick from New Orleans yesterday morning! The great tarpon action in La Torrecilla lagoon will continue in August and San Jose lagoon should start producing good tarpon numbers by the end of the month.
