Frequently Asked Questions

Where are you located?

Extreme Fishing Puerto Rico is berthed at Cangrejos Yacht Club which is a private marina. It is located on route 187 in Isla Verde, just besides the San Juan International Airport. It is a 10 to 15 minute from most of the San Juan metro area hotels.

What types of boats do you have?

Extreme Fishing Puerto Rico has two center console power center console power catamarans. The EXTREMIST is a 20-foot Twin Vee catamaran powered by twin 70 horse power Yamaha engines. This is our tarpon fishing boat.
El FLAKO is a 26-foot Twin Vee catamaran powered by twin 150 horse power Suzuki engines. This is our reef fishing and offshore fishing boat.

What do you provide on board?

We provide all the bait and tackle necessary for your fishing experience. At Extreme Fishing Puerto Rico, we use rods from St. Croix and Shimano and reels from Shimano and Alutecnos. We are happy to provide bottled water and sodas for your trip.

What should I bring?

Plan on wearing light clothing as we are in the tropics. Boat shoes, tennis shoes and flip flops are all welcome aboard our boats. You should also bring a hat/visor, sunglasses, and sunblock.

How many people can be on the boat?

Aboard the 20-foot EXTREMIST (for tarpon fishing trips) we have a maximum of 4 persons allowed.
Aboard the 26-foot EL FLAKO we allow up to 4 persons for the reef fishing trips and 2 persons for the offshore trips.

Do you split charters?

Extreme Fishing Puerto Rico does not offer split charters with other customers. These are private fishing charters for your party only guided by Capt. Juan.

Do you provide transportation to and from the marina?

Extreme Fishing Puerto Rico does not provide transportation to and from the marina, as we have to get the boats ready and catch bait before every trip. Taxi and Uber services are readily available here in Puerto Rico. All of the major rental car agencies are also available in Puerto Rico.

Will I get seasick?

Our tarpon fishing trips are in the calm waters of La Torrecilla and San Jose lagoons. You are not likely to get seasick there as it is flat water fishing.
Reef fishing and offshore fishing trips are in the waters off the north coast of Puerto Rico. Weather can get rough there at times. If you are prone to motion sickness, we recommend you take motion sickness medicine the night before or choose to go tarpon fishing in the lagoons!

Can I keep my catch?

Tarpon are protected by law in Puerto Rico. Therefore, all tarpon trips are 100% catch and release.
Reef fishing and offshore fishing trips can produce tasty gamefish which you can keep. The fish we catch are property of Extreme Fishing Puerto Rico, but we will gladly share some of them if you wish to cook them yourselves or have them prepared at our marina restaurant.
We do not process fish to ship to the mainland.

What is your cancellation policy?

Tarpon fishing trips are rarely cancelled because of the weather. We do not cancel tarpon fishing trips because of rain, as the rain makes the tarpon fishing even better! We will cancel tarpon fishing trips ONLY for thunderstorms.
Reef and offshore fishing trips may be cancelled due to rough sea conditions.
The captain will communicate the current weather forecasts for the days leading up to your trip and decide wether or not it is safe to venture out.
